Joseph Raidan Lane, better known as JoJo to his beloved family and friends, was born in El Paso, TX on April 12, 2002 to Danielle Marie Nelson and Jonathan Patrick Lane. He came into this world expressing himself vocally and, as he grew, his infectious laugh and silly grin brought peace and comfort wherever he went.
JoJo was a kind and genuine soul that would do anything he could to make someone feel loved and accepted. He felt things deeply and truly, and when he said, “I love you”, it came from his heart. To know him was to experience unconditional love. Friends became family to him, and he was an instant light in any dark room.
His caring nature was evident in the love he had for animals, especially his doggos: Bolt, Lucy and Odin. Jojo and his sweet Siberian Husky, Bolt, grew up together. Bolt preceded him in death earlier this year. He enjoyed snuggling with the foster puppies his mom brought home before leaving off to college.
He was a 2020 high school graduate and had just begun living out his dream at Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ, to become an Automotive Tech with a specialty in Volvo cars. His dream was to someday build race cars others could only imagine. Becoming an adult, going off to college on his own, and learning how to navigate in this great big world excited him and made him want to make a name for himself.
JoJo had a passion for skateboarding, playing the violin, writing poetry and lyrics to turn into music, and reading dystopian fiction such as The Hunger Games Trilogy, the I Am Number 4 Series, the Divergent Series and The Maze Runner, just a few of his favorites from his huge book collection. He was a Life Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow and spent a summer at Camp Rainey Mountain in North Georgia as a Camp Counselor.
His musical tastes were broad and ranged from Lindsey Stirling to Eminem, and he even tolerated 90’s Alternative Radio when he was stuck in the car with his mom. He enjoyed analyzing the lyrics and breaking them down to understand the meaning behind them. He used them to create his own lyrics and enjoyed rapping to a broad audience on Instagram.
JoJo was preceded in death by his infant sister Allyson Chevelle-Marie Lane and always felt he was missing a piece of himself without her. He longed to have his sister by his side to walk with him on this earth. It gives us some sense of peace knowing that JoJo and his sister Ally are together again, watching over us and being our guardian angels.
His generous and caring spirit will continue to live on in the lives of those who received his tissue and cornea donations. He would have been so proud to know that he has been able to make a real and lasting difference in this world and will benefit others who will no doubt be grateful to him forever.
JoJo’s memory will be forever cherished by his beloved family: dad, Jonathan; mom, Danielle; stepdad, Carl; brother and sister Joshua and Lillian; and numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the many close friends he made throughout his life.
