Jonnie was born on January 30, 1943, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, to John W. Figgins and Ida M. Figgins. She was one of seven siblings—six girls and one boy—and also had a half-sister on her father’s side. Her family later moved to W J elton, Arizona, where she attended Antelope High School.
After graduating, Jonnie was introduced to the love of her life, James “Jim” Buttermore, by her sister and brother-in-law. It didn’t take long for them to know they were meant to be together, and they were married on February 26, 1966.
About nine months later, they welcomed their first daughter, Anita Marie, who was born in Tucson, Arizona. After Jim returned home from serving in the Vietnam War, the couple settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where they built their life and raised their family. After eight years of hoping, praying, and enduring the heartbreak of losing two precious angel babies, they were blessed with their second daughter, Jami Michelle, and sixteen months later, their third daughter, Wendy Ann.
Jonnie worked at Motorola, the Cartwright School District, and later Walmart, where she spent over 25 years before retiring in 2016.
Jonnie loved to crochet, often making everything from blankets and beanies to stuffed animals. If she had a pattern, she could crochet anything.
Jonnie’s greatest pride and joy were her 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Kieona (Jakevan) and Kiera (Bryan), children of Jami; Kayleena (William), Robert Jr., Daniel, and Jacob, children of Wendy; and Christopher (Ambrosia), Cassandra (Rob), Katie, Kellie (David), Joseph, and Jewellea, children of Anita.
She is also cherished by her great-grandchildren: Kaleah, Jakevan Jr., Jaxson, Rowan, Travis, Elijah, Noah, Kinsleigh, Aiden, Madeline, Timothy, Joshua, and David Jr.
Jonnie’s favorite singer was Elvis, and she loved anything related to him.
Most of all, Jonnie loved her family with all her heart.
Jonnie earned her angel wings on January 10, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital (now Banner University) in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband, three daughters, two granddaughters, and grandson-in-law by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and sisters. Jonnie is survived by her loving husband, three daughters, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and countless other family and friends.
