Judith Rose Vogus, 79, of Glendale, Arizona entered heaven on December 12, 2024, with her family close by. Judith was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 6, 1945, to John Martin Skaluda Jr. and Hortense Josephine Jozwiakowski.
When Judith was a child, her father passed away and she was then adopted in 1954 by Vern Francis Wagner who raised her with her mother. Judith was the youngest of three children. Judith was raised in Milwaukee where she attended numerous schools and began her life. Judith met and married Peter John Spera (deceased) and together they adopted one child, Cynthia Ann Spera. In 1977, Judith remarried Larry Michael Vogus (also deceased) and they had one child named Cassandra Marie (Vogus) Karas. She resided in Wisconsin until 1987, when her family moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Judith always loved helping and serving others. She volunteered several days per week starting in 1999 when she relocated from Illinois to Arizona. Her passions included her children, friends and family, and her church. Judith was very active in her parish previously at” St Mary’s” in Chandler. Upon moving to Glendale, Judith remained very active in St. Simon and Jude parish with processing the church offering each week, and anything the church needed. Judith spent a lot of her time volunteering with “St. Vincent De Paul" where she conducted house visits, regularly worked at the food bank, and answered phone calls as needed. In preparation for the holidays, Judith made sure to be available on "Turkey Tuesday" to give out turkeys to those in need and found joy in making soups for the parish’s “Soup Suppers.”
Christmas was her favorite time of year. She loved celebrating with family. Each year Judith would enjoy decorating the house and baking numerous Christmas cookies and fudges. Christmas Eve would be reserved for celebrating with the family, where they would open all but one gift that they would open on Christmas morning. On Thanksgiving she would go all out and make all the traditional favorite foods like the Turkey and pies, and her other close family would bring other side dishes.
Judith had a lot of hobbies. She loved to garden, read mysteries, and complete puzzles. Often, you could find her working on a puzzle while sitting with her dear pets and watching the news to stay updated on current events or relaxing as she enjoyed her favorite evening TV shows: Murder She Wrote, Father Brown, Death in Paradise, and All Creatures Great and Small on PBS, amongst other shows she didn't like to miss.
Judith leaves behind her slightly older sister Mary (Wagner) Ivens, two daughters: Cynthia Ann Spera, and Cassandra Marie (Vogus) Karas, son-in-law Dan Karas, and granddaughter, Cynthia Rose Spera, as well as her dear cousins, nephews, and friends who were also very special to her.
Met in heaven by her parents, John Martin Skaluda, Vern F. Wagner, Hortense J. Wagner (Walczak), and Harry Walczak, her older brother John (Jack) Francis Wagner.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral located at 6351 N 27th Avenue on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations that could be sent to any organizations Judith supported on a regular basis, including St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or St. Vincent de Paul. Donations to Alzheimer’s Association for research, reducing risk, and improving care would also be graciously accepted.
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I’m not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me,
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too.
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But when I walked through Heaven's fage
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From His great golden throne
He said, “This is eternity,
And all I’ve promised you.”
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day’s the same way
There’s no longing for the past.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.
