Leonard was last of ten children born to William and Lucy Sharp.
Leonard spent his first 47 years of life in Des Moines, Iowa. During these years he was educated in the public school system, worked at Iowa packing company, married Winnifred L. Bruce, enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and became the father of two sons, Leonard L. Jr, and Bruce.
After Iowa packing company ceased operations in 1967, Leonard and Winnie relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked for Swift and Company in Tolleson, Arizona processing beef and pork products. He later worked for, and retired from, the City of Phoenix – Sky Harbor Airport Maintenance Department.
In retirement, Leonard and Winnie were active in Fisher Chapel A.M.E Zion church, travel and nurturing and enjoying their many great and great –great grandchildren.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, all nine siblings, his wife of 74 years Winnifred, and son, Leonard Jr.
He leaves to cherish his legacy son Bruce (Susan), daughter-in-law Kelly Sue Sharp; grandchildren Kelli Downing. Lori Fisher, Jeri Sharp, Matthew and Leonard (Lennie) Sharp, III; 13 great grandchildren , 9 great-great grandchildren, 2 brother-in-law, 2 sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was a GOD LOVING, HARD WORKING, FAMILY ORIENTED man. Not all heroes wear capes.
