

Linda Carmen Colcord born 6/11/1922 was born in Dallas, Texas, then moved to Phoenix when she was a year old where her sister Jane was born. The rest of her childhood was spent in Los Angeles CA, and she graduated from Belmont High School, in 1940. During her teenage years she became a professional nightclub act dancer specializing in toe tap dancing. She was known at one point as the fast top tapper on the West Coast. She and her sister Carmen supported their two younger sisters, Joyce and Mona Lee all the way through boarding school. Her first marriage was to Bob Hopperstadt who served in the navy in WWII, they divorced after some years together. After divorce she further advanced her career in dancing and choreography. During this show biz run she met her second husband, Frank Colcord. Frank was a famous big game hunter, cattle rancher and thoroughbred horse trainer/owner/breeder. They married in 1950 on Cinco de Mayo in Nogales, Sonora Mexico and were married for almost 20 years. They had three kids together Michael Colcord, Cathy Cheatham and Lois Colcord. She raised 3 children and managed the family cattle ranching/horse racing business. After Frank’s death in 1969, she liquidated the cattle ranch, and horse racing business, but continued to manage the Thoroughbred horse breeding operation through the mid-seventies. In 1972, she met and married Don Dodge, a cutting horse trainer and partnered in the thoroughbred horse racing business. They divorced in 1975. She became a very accomplished seamstress from her show business days and continued to use this talent throughout the rest of her life. She made clothes for the poor and assisted her sister Jane, in her custom clothing business. Her oldest daughter, Cathy had a son, Calvin in 1988 and daughter, Rachael in 1990. Linda spent a great amount of time with her grandchildren. Their relationship had a huge mutual influence in all of their lives.
She was survived by her three sisters, Jane DeVivier, Mona Lee Valle, Joyce Winter and son Michael Colcord, and her twin daughters, Cathy Cheatham, Lois Colcord and three grandchildren, Calvin Cheatham, Rachael Cheatham, Ian Mallon and one great grandson, Sage Mallon. A celebration of life will be held at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, at 11am Saturday, October 11th at 200 W. Beardsley Rd, Phoenix AZ 85027.
