Maxine Marian Hansen, a native born Phoenician, passed away September 4, 2020 at age 96. She was born September 26, 1923 and baptized at Garfield Methodist Church in Phoenix, AZ. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Carl W. and Greta L. Gatton DePriest from Arkansas. Her husband, Harold Martin Hansen, her son, Raymond Harold Hansen, and her great-grandson, Braden Mende. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Brookins, her daughter-in-law, Elaine Hansen, her grandchildren Mindi Mende (Rick), Mandy O’Neal (Brad), Wayne Harold Hansen (Heather), Lori Brookins (Brian) and 17 great grandchildren. Maxine married Harold M. Hansen on April 9, 1939 in the Garfield Methodist Church, Phoenix, AZ. After raising their two children, she worked for two different Medical doctors, completed two years of nursing school and was an Office Manager. Prior to her marriage, Maxine attended Phoenix Union High School. Family was the center of their lives and gatherings were filled with lots of love and laughter. They often vacationed with their parents, siblings and their families. The trips were always filled with adventure. Road conditions were bad in places and car breakdowns were not unusual. In those days everyone could pile into one car and continue to their destination. Mormon Lake was a favorite vacation spot. Cabins were rustic with ice blocks to keep food cold, and “out houses”. Rodeos and fishing were a highlight of the vacation. Maxine and Harold owned a cabin in Pinewood for many years and were members of the Pinewood Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf and entertaining friends. Maxine was a formidable competitor in golf and card games. Maxine lived independently after Harold’s death in 2003, in the new home they purchased in 1985. She managed her home and continued to drive through 94 years of age. Maxine moved to Park Terrace Senior Assisted Living, using a walker to get around within the community. She had some health challenges so her daughter sold her home in December 2019. Within a day of selling her home, a social worker helped Gloria find Rosemonte Assisted Living group home just a few blocks from the house she sold. The location was perfect for Maxine and convenient for the neighbors to visit until Covid stopped visits to the home. By then, she was in a wheel chair, received excellent 24-hour care from the home and Hospice New Beginning helped with part of her care. She will be remembered by her family, those who met her along the way; by her loving, kind words and generous spirit. Maxine requested no services except a private family Celebration of Life will be in October 2020.
