Norman Martin Evans was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on April 24, 1930, to Leon and Maxine Evans (nee Karnes). He passed away in Laveen, Arizona, on October 1, 2018, after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Katherine Gertrude and Mary Alice.
Norman is survived by his children, Dana Owens (Douglas) of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Denis Evans (Monique) of Phoenix, Arizona, Deanna Steele of Midland, Michigan, Daniel Evans of Fort Collins, Colorado, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In 1950, Norman entered the United States Navy, where he completed the Naval School of Mine Warfare. He served on the USS Fraser during the Korean War. After discharge from the Navy, he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, with an emphasis on education. He taught high school for over 40 years in the Buena Vista School system in Saginaw, Michigan. He also provided driver’s training to hundreds of students during that period, and was involved with various school sports teams.
Norman loved traveling and lived in both Canada and Mexico during his life, as well as Saginaw, Michigan and Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to his illness, Norman was a member of St. Odilia’s Catholic Church in Tucson where he was a member of the Legion of Mary. He was an ardent supporter of the pro-life movement.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 750 E. Baseline Road, Phoenix, Arizona, with Rosary beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
