It has taken me until 2025 to finally discover the whereabouts of my dear friend, Octavia, and am now being saddened to learn of her passing.  My friend, "Oci" (hard "k" sound for letter "c") as I called her, and I were Glenville High School buddies, who quickly bonded in working side-by side as Editor-in Chief ("Oci") and Editorial Editor (me) for our school newspaper, the Glenville Torch.   I still recall our last communication upon graduation, in referring her to a summer job prospect with the Board of Education, and how we hugged and said we would always try to keep in touch.  However, while we may not have reconnected on this journey,  please be comforted family members in knowing "Oci's" pretty, smart, wise, fun, witty, athletic, multi-talented, and energizing spirit will forever be connected to, and live in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her so well.

My dear darling Daughter Octavia, was the most loving giving sweet person a Mother could ever ask for. I am so proud of all her accomplishments here on earth and I know she is in God's Kingdom helping God to do what needs to be done in Heaven!! She is completely whole and free from pain!! Rest in Peace my dear Daughter, I miss you and love You!!

Octavia was a kind and gentle spirit.  My condolences to Vance, and the Family.  So young to lose such a beautiful human.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Octavia today. I had the pleasure of working with Octavia.  She was such a wonderful person. I greatly enjoyed her smile, her positive personality and her love of family.  She left a positive impression on those she interacted with.  Cherish the memories.

Aunt Jeannene: To Vance, Clarrissa, Kalia , Brandan and my dear sister Lucy. I shall remember Octavia's beautiful smiling face and the long chats we had on my back porch in Georgia. Octavia was not afraid of anything. My father raised cattle and bought a very large bull named Walter.  We were told to never go into the pasture where Walter was. One day we could not find Octavia. My son Jenara was heard making a frantic call. He said Octavia was in the pasture reading a story book to Walter. My dad calmy  went to the pasture and said. "Octavia come to poppa". Octavia closed the story book and went to poppa. He reached over the fence and picked Octavia up and gave her a big hug.  Walter never moved and look as if to say " but you did not finish the story!" This is the brave Octavia  I loved and will always remember. Rest in peace my dear niece!!

Vance and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Octavia was a wonderful kind person every time we spoke.

I had the pleasure of working with Octavia in Personal line Underwriting for about a year. She’s lovely person. I worked with Vance more so we were in Fire Claims together. It’s very sad that she left so soon. Rest In Peace Octavia. 

I knew Octavia thru work. We crossed paths over the years and talked about Hawaii. She was the sweetest person who was always humble and kind. Many prayers to the family. Rest in paradise Octavia!

Octavia and me were play cousins as far back as six years old.  Our mothers  and aunties were best friends and that made us besties. Smile.  We spent many days, nights, and weekends together.  In junior high I fondly remember catching the CTS with Octavia to visit Aunt Lucy while she was working at Higbees. In high  school Octavia and I rode our bikes from East 105th Street to West 150th St.  Ofcourse, our parents had no clue we rode that far. Smile. Octavia and her family last visited me about 2014.  We stayed in touch just a bit over the years.  Octavia is dear to me and will be truly missed.  I know  Octavia is in the presence of the Lord! Octavia was a wonderful individual that always greeted me with a smile.  I worked with her during my early years with State Farm.  She was an amazing mentor that helped me as I sought additional opportunities throughout State Farm.

I am 88 years old and Octavia was virtually my eight child. when she was born in Georgia 61 years ago. The doctor who delivered Octavia remarked: " Octavia in Latin means eight". Octavia was and will be my eight child in the way she lived and all she accomplished in life. We moved to Cleveland when Octavia was 4 years old. At any early age she always wanted to work and make money. she would say "mommy I can do that ".when she saw older children who had jobs. Octavia carried this  premise throughout her lifetime .She was devoted to any and everything she set out to do and she did it! 

Lucy Bland Mother, from the day Octavia was born she was the best daughter, a mother could hope for. She was smart loving and kind. At the age of 6 she wrote an essay to a children's Tv show in Cleveland and won.  She appeared on the show, won a bicycle and a large box of Reese's peanut butter candy.  In High school Octavia worked for the Board of education and at the time made more money than me. She attended Ohio State university, The university of Hawaii and graduated from The university Of Phoenix. Octavia accomplished much in her lifetime. I am so proud.  Rest in peace my dear daughter. You have earned your rest. Mommy loves you!!


Shocking news. Octavia was an integral part of State Farm and wonderful to work with. Always pleasant and happy to help. Octavia will be dearly missed. God bless her family.

Octavia and I go back to Jr. High School Patrick Henry and then Sr. High School Glenville.  We both graduated in 1978 one with honors and one without (smile---that would be me).  We played tennis and we rode our bikes everywhere.  We saw a few scary movies together with friends: Carrie and Halloween to name a few.  She and I hung out the 1st year during her college years at Ohio State.  We recently reconnected through Facebook much to my relief that I was able to apologize for some hurtful words I said to her way back when.  She was there for me when our other bestie Tina Danzey passed and she was there when I had crushes and my mother's death in 1979.  She was the nicest, smartest and fastest track woman I had the pleasure of knowing.  All I have are memories when we were young but they will be cherished forever.  RIH Octavia.  Condolences to her husband and children , family and friends.
