Ramona Martinez

Ramona was born June 27, 1939 in Grants, New Mexico. She was the third of eleven children born to Ignacio G Montoya and Eulalia Aragon. She leaves behind four sisters and two brothers: Lucy Hollis, Dorothy Garcia, Sarah Linderman, Marcella Nunez, James and Herman Montoya.

She attended elementary school at the “Little Red School House” in Casa Colorado, New Mexico, then continued on to attend Belen High School. She left home to live quite the “adventurous” life. During her care-free days she met and married her first husband, Herminio Peralta and while the marriage was short lived, they had a daughter, Theresa J Peralta.

When Theresa was 3 months old, Ramona met her soulmate, Ismael R. Martinez, whom everyone knew as “Marty.” Ramona and Marty courted for five years and married on December 23, 1961. They has four children together; Glenda, Brenda, Marty and David. They remained married for 25 blissful years. Ramona maintained the home front, managed to cart the kids to their various school and extracurricular activities, and was still available to attend a function of some sort with her loving husband at the drop of a dime.

In 1987, with the passing of her beloved husband, she was left to raise her two sons alone, but fortunately at this time, Ramona had several grandchildren to help fill the void.

In 2001, Ramona’s health started to deteriorate. Throughout every trial that she faced, her faith kept her strong for both herself and those around her. Her laugh was infectious and her smile ever present regardless of what she was going through. She remained strong and courageous and continued to bless her family with great stories and wisdom.

Those who knew her will tell you she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and those who knew her well, will tell you that she always followed with a kind heart. She was many things to many people, but she was loved by all that were blessed to know her.

While we are saddened for our loss, we rejoice for Heavens gain. Ramona is now dancing on the streets of gold with the love of her life.
