We find comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into his heavenly home and joyfully reunited with his cherished wife and our mother, Angela L. Casillas; his parents, Ramon and Soledad Casillas; and his siblings, Margarito Casillas, Manual Casillas, Raymond Casillas, Carlos “Wero” Casillas, Carmen Casillas and Consuelo Casillas. Their reunion brings peace to our hearts as we celebrate his life and legacy.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose strength, kindness, and faith guided our family. He leaves behind five loving children: Richard Casillas, Jr., Rudy Casillas, Ronnie Casillas, Rhonda Casillas, and Monica Casillas, as well as eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish his memory.
Richard was born on Friday, February 5, 1937, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Ramon and Soledad Casillas. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Phoenix’s Los Cuatro Milpas neighborhood, where he lived a majority of his life and raised his family in his cherished childhood home. He dedicated time in coaching the neighborhood kids in the baseball little league team named the Wesley Dodgers.
He worked various jobs to support his growing family before beginning his career with the City of Phoenix in 1961 as a Park Equipment Operator II, where he proudly served until his retirement in 1998. His dedication and hard work reflected his unwavering commitment to providing for his family and community.
During retirement, he found great joy in the simple blessings of life. He loved spending time outdoors watering his fruit trees, tending to his yard, and walking in his Glendale neighborhood. He could often be found bowling in a senior league and engaged in the local senior center, where he delighted in bingo nights and day trips to nearby casinos. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family, whose laughter and love brought him immense happiness. He is greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Though we will miss him deeply, we find solace in knowing he has gone home to rest in the loving arms of God and is reunited with those who went before him. His faith, love, and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
