Bob's Celebration of Life service was absolutely wonderful the way the church, family & friends remembered him. Many of us from the White Mountains HIgh Country Barbershop Chorus had the pleasure of singing the 'Lord's Prayer" a capella style for the service. Bob will be sorely missed at our rehearsals but always is our hearts....jhb

Anna and family you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss the wonderful family holiday dinners that I was lucky enough to be a part of. Pop's memory will live inside of each and every one of you and he will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Janice and family.  Bob was a good friend and I really enjoyed our talks over a cup of coffee.

Bob had many passions.  Aside from his love of family, one of his most enduring passions was the love of flying his Maule airplane.  He said he could land it almost anywhere, and he was always looking for an excuse to fly it.  So, when we were assigned to an engineering project at a mine in Globe, Arizona, Bob decided that he would fly the daily commute to the job-site rather than drive the whole 90-minutes each way.  After scouting landing sites, he decided that he would land the Maule on top of the mine tailings pile.  He kicked the dirt, checked the wind direction, paced off the runway, marked it with stakes and flags, and brought in concrete blocks to anchor the plane.  Bob's first landing on the tailings pile was successful.  He had thought of everything – almost.   In spite of his usual thoroughness, he had neglected to tell the mine owners of his plans to land the plane on their tailings pile.   So, after landing, he was greeted by the mine's emergency response team – lights flashing and sirens blaring.  Bob matter-of-factly sent them on their way, after explaining that he was just commuting to the job-site, and he continued to land at “Bob Koons Field” for the remainder of the project.  What a wonderful character.  We've lost a human treasure.  There's no doubt that he's flying above us now.

Bob left us too soon. During my years directing the High Country Chorus Bob was, not only a solid Bass, and reliable member, but a great President, leading the Chapter for two years. When I asked him to play Cowboy Bob in our 2005 Western Show, he went out and purchased a Bb harmonica, so that he could blow the pitch for Ragtime Cowboy Joe. His cowboy poem, accompanied by his playing of "Old Susannah" brought immediate energy to the chorus and the audience as well. He will never be forgotten!

I certainly will miss Bob and his leadership in the White Mountain High Country Chorus.  As a former President of the chorus I so appreciated his enthusiasm for close harmony both on and off the stage.  I will never forget his portrayal of "Mister Touch Down" in our College Days Show.  Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the funeral but please receive my love and prayers for the family.

 My  condolences to the Koons  family.  I'm a friend of Bob's  son, Jon. I  recently had the  pleasure of  sitting with the two of them and enjoying some of Bob's stories.  It  was clear  that Jon and Bob had an amazing relationship which is something not every father and son can say. Bob raised a wonderful son who will forever be my friend. I am so sorry for your loss.

A fellow Barbershopper and fellow pilot, Bob is well remembered and missed.  Thanks to his family for sharing him while he was here.

Bob and I sang in the High Country Barbershop Chorus in the White Mountains of Arizona. He sang bass and I always enjoyed his harmonica prelude to the " Rag Time Cowboy Joe" song. He was a quiet mild mannered man and I appreciated his gentle attitude. I will miss him and my deepest condolences go out to Jan and the family...James H Burden....jhb

Pop's kind heart and gentle ways touched us deeply and will forever be in the hearts of the Vela family- as we will fondly remember holidays and shared times and his love of war movies (and that sticky Spiderman thing of Korey's he threw at the wall and laughed at for hours)

Anna and family - I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved father, grandfather and husband.  You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.  Time will help to ease your loss but there will always be a tiny piece missing.  Cherish your memories and know that one day you will all be together again.

First plane ride I ever took was to see Aunt Jan, Uncle Bob and cousin Jon. Then to top it off, Uncle Bob flew us to breakfast one morning, in his very own plane. It was the best vacation ever! I love you guys! Rest in Peace Uncle Bob! You will be missed!
