Robert Wesley McClamroch passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 at his home in Tucson, Arizona under the loving care of his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Robert was born in the parlor on his family’s farm near Rutledge, Missouri on October 17, 1943. At the age of 18 months, he moved with his mother Mildred Miller, father Jonathan Wesley McClamroch, and sister Catherine Mae McClamroch to Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Lafayette Grade School, Camelback High School, Phoenix College, and graduated with High Distinction from Arizona State University in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration.
In 1965 he enlisted in the US Army. In November 1966, he was deployed to the War in Vietnam where he served as an infantryman in Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade. During that year, he served his country proudly and was honorably discharged, returning home in 1967. After getting out of the Army, he worked in Phoenix, Arizona, until August of 1971 when he went to work for the Headquarters of the U.S. Army Strategic Communications Command in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. During his career, he provided logistics support to armed forces around the world. He retired January 3, 2001 as the Deputy to the Chief of Staff for Logistics to the U.S. Army Signal Command.
While working at Ft. Huachuca, Robert met Jean Renee Thomas (Jenny), and they married January 12, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Tucson, bought “1510,” and raised their daughter Joyanne Renee McClamroch in this home.
Robert engaged in endless family activities, travel, genealogy research, gardening, fishing and hiking. He particularly enjoyed two, five day-long hikes across and within the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and two oar powered, 19 day raft trips, 225 miles long, through the entire length of the Grand Canyon.
Robert is survived by his wife Jean Thomas of over 44 years, sister Cathy Nulliner of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Joyanne, son-in-law John, and grandson Wesley Rolph of Bermuda. Robert was a devoted husband to Jenny and they shared everything, including an email and cell phone for many years until Jenny required him to get his own phone for lengthy road trips with his best friends. He was a kind, playful father and grandfather who would always show his silly side, enjoying games for hours. He was a
kid at heart with a deep appreciation for chocolate ice-cream and Jenny's homemade pies, a skill Jenny learned from Robert’s own mother.
A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 North 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren St, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
