Ruth Stanley Johnson was born on April 6, 1933 to Lawrence C. Brown and Daisy Gardner in Kansas City, Missouri. Her husband Cecil N. Johnson Sr. and both her parents preceded her in death.
Ruth was educated in the Kansas City Missouri Public School System and while raising seven children she pursued her education at Penn Valley Community College where she received an Associate of Applied Science degree in 1976, she went on to pursue her B.S. degree in Elementary Education at Southwestern Adventist University. At the age of 66 she was the oldest graduate of her 1999 class.
Ruth’s professional career spanned more than 35 years in childcare development, a career that began with a childcare business in her home during the 70s. Ruth’s career path expanded to several roles at childcare centers in the Kansas City, Missouri area where she enthusiastically provided her expertise and support in nurturing and training children. Ruth’s lifelong passion was nurturing and training not only her own children and grandchildren but all children to know, understand, and to love her Lord and Savior.
Ruth enjoyed the arts, she had a natural gift for drawing and painting, visitors to her home would comment on her tastefully displayed portfolio of artwork.
Ruth enjoyed life after retirement in Phoenix, Arizona with family until her untimely death. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church with a large portion of that time worshipping at Linwood Boulevard SDA Church in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 2009 where she joined the Beacon Light SDA Church.
Ruth “LOVED” the Lord and was passionately known as the lady that “Shouted, Praised, and Raising her hands, giving thanks to the Lord.” Ruth was the proud mother of seven surviving children, Douglas L. Williams (Sue), Debra Lunt, Duke Banks (Tyeisha), Roderick Banks, David Banks (Schontell), Timothy M. Banks (Clarene), Cecil N. Johnson Jr. (Marjorie), Ruth is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends that will forever love and cherish the time that God gave Ruth to them.
