

Silverio Yrigoyen Miranda was born to Angel and Laura Miranda on Monday, June 20, 1921 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the 4th born of 8 children of which 6 preceded him in death. Silverio, also known as Silver, spent his early years driving for his father, an educated physician, to forage herbs and plants in the desert for medicinal use. Silver accompanied his father to far destinations, such as Jerome, Prescott, Wickenburg and other small towns in order to medically treat the sick. In the 5th grade Silver started learning musical instruments and within a few years became a player of the cello, the accordion, the harmonica, the guitar and the piano with his favorite being the accordion.Silver met Celia Gonzales in 1939 and they married on December 14, 1941. Soon after his first child, Hortensia (Tenchi) was born and just 3 months later he was off to South Carolina to train to fight in World War II under the branch of the U.S. Army. He fought in 4 battles in the South Pacific against the Japanese. He returned to the United States stricken with malaria and PTSD. He worked various jobs landing him in a casket manufacturing plant. After learning the business he opened his own casket company, Valley Casket Co. in Phoenix. After selling the casket company, Silver moved his family, now consisting of the addition of 3 more children, Virginia (Ginny), Sally Ann and Silver (Chito) to San Pedro, California where his brother lived. Silver worked in caskets once again then moving on to painting city refuse trucks. Silver later went to work for the Los angeles Police Department where he retired after being with the police department for many years. Silver eventually moved back to Arizona where he enjoyed old movies, entertaining his bird, Rosie, playing his accordion and keyboard. Silver embraced the hands of our loving Father on Tuesday night at 9:15 on October 4, 2016 giving him a total of 34,806 days here on earth. Silver is survived by his wife of nearly 75 years, Sally, his children, Hortensia (Tenchi), Virginia (Ginny), Sally Ann (Sally), and Silverio (Chito), 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Miguel (Mike) and a host of other relatives and friends.
