Troy was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 1, 1973, to Eddie and Luz Mata. He graduated from Shadow Mountain High School in 1991 and attended Scottsdale Community College.
His love of books and media lead him to employment at several books stores including Barnes and Noble. He was employed as a Media Tech for 10 years at Cactus View Elementary, where he was able to share his passion for reading with the students and also his knowledge of technology.
He was an avid lover of music, collector of comics and enjoyed action movies. He was an ASU sports supporter and fanatic of all sports. As a loving uncle, he spent quality time with his nephew and nieces sharing his passion for music, sports and movies.
Troy is survived by his fiancé Lisa Hood, parents Eddie and Luz Mata, brother Jose and sister in law, Brenda, nieces Samantha Henson, Mariah and nephew EddieJ. He is also survived by his 94-year-old grandmother from Fresno, California, Flavia Resendez as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from all over the country.
The Mata family has been members of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 48 years. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St., Phoenix, AZ 85028 on June 22, 2019. Rosary at 10:00 a.m. in the Ascension Hall followed by a reception in the St. Joseph House.
