SIMPSONVILLE – Elvin R. Kelley, 83, husband of Mary Ellen Kelley, went to be with his heavenly Father on November 12, 2017. Born in Six Mile on July 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Grady and Louise Rogers Kelley. He was an Air Force veteran achieving several honors during his time of duty. Elvin retired from John D. Hollingsworth as a security officer with nearly 40 years of service. He was a member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church and former member of Greenville First Wesleyan Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Denise Cauley (Johnny) and Kim Stroud (Robert); grandchildren, Erica Cauley, Ashley Robinson (Justin), Jared Stroud (Taylor) and Ethan Stroud; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Stroud and Emma-Grace Stroud; and beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was married to Mary Ellen whom he loved dearly for 59 ½ years. Elvin loved the Lord with all his heart and served his church faithfully; teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and providing home-grown produce for those in need. He was passionate about his gardening, sharing his bounty with friends, family, neighbors and even strangers. He enjoyed deer hunting with his friends whom he considered to be his brothers. If he didn’t come home with a deer, he still came home with quite a story to tell. He was an avid Clemson fan, and loved his Tigers. Elvin was a caregiver to many over the years, unselfishly giving of his time to help the sick or lend a helping hand. Elvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He leaves behind a legacy of astounding faith that carried him through over the years. During his last days, he spoke of crossing over Jordan. He would want all to know he is on the other side now rejoicing as he sees Jesus face to face. The family would like to personally thank all his friends and family who came to his aide and who were a great support to his wife during this time. A special thanks to Palliative Care of GHS and McCall Hospice House for your loving care. The family will receive friends at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 2 to 3 PM with funeral services following at 3:30 PM. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens with military honors. Memorials may be made to Simpsonville United Methodist Church, 215 SE Main Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The family is at the home. Dillard Funeral Home Pickens, SC
