In the 1960s, Gerda came to America, first living at Fort Benning, Georgia, before settling in Pickens County, South Carolina. It was there she met the love of her life, her late husband, Colen Kelley. Together, they shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Gerda is survived by her children, Karen Kelley, David (Karen) Winningham, Linda (Thomas) McCoy, and Carmen (Kodi) Richards. She was preceded in death by her son, John Paul Taylor. Gerda was also blessed with eight grandchildren who brought her great joy.
Known for her bright spirit and infectious sense of humor, Gerda never met a stranger. She loved spending time on her front porch talking with neighbors and friends and enjoyed outings with her family. Her laughter and warmth made every gathering brighter.
We encourage everyone to take a moment to share a laugh and a memory in her honor. Gerda's life will live on in the moments we cherish and hold close to our hearts. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Manna Post Acute in Pickens, South Carolina, for their care, kindness, and support.
Gerda will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her joy, kindness, and humor will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2:00 PM, on Friday November 7, 2025.
