Helen Patterson Ellenburg

Mrs. Helen Patterson Ellenburg, 93, wife of Ralph M. Ellenburg, Sr, of Liberty, SC, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Helen was born September 29, 1921 in Pickens County, SC the daughter of the late Barney G. Patterson and the late Minnie Bearden Patterson of Salem, SC. Helen was a graduate of Pickens High School, Pickens, SC where she was the Valedictorian and played basketball. As a young adult, Helen was crowned Miss Pickens. Helen was an avid reader and loved to garden. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 70 years, Ralph M. Ellenburg Sr; her children, Ralph(Mac) M. Ellenburg, Jr & Heller Gwen Ellenburg of Liberty and Heather Rice McConnell of Black Mountain, NC and her brother, Jack Patterson of Pickens. She was predeceased by a daughter, Hollace Hamid of Easley and a brother, Roland Patterson of Pickens. Helen left behind five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Graveside service with family and friends will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 3:30 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of the Upstate; 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Alzheimer's Association; 301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC.
