Greg was born in Niles, Michigan on November 21, 1965 to Annie Mae Williamson Freeze of Easley, SC and the late James Donald Freeze. Greg never met a stranger and he made sure you knew everything important about him. His goal in life was to always make someone smile, which earned him the nickname "Smiley" in his younger years. Greg loved pulling a practical joke, and there wasn't much off limits with him. From his jokes with his family to impersonations (especially one called "Maynard"), he always thrived off someone getting a good scare or laugh. He loved to ride bikes, kayak, and doing many adventurous things with his family.
Through everything else, Greg always kept his family first and foremost. If he had plans with his children, the rest of the world could wait. He was the most generous man that anyone could ever ask to know, and was a co-founder of Outstretched Arms Ministry for the homeless and needy. They provided hats, coats, gloves, and any other items needed, along with feeding them a hot breakfast on Christmas morning. Greg was a Family Service Counselor with Greenville Memorial Gardens, where he truly loved his job and serving others.
In addition to his mother, Greg is survived by his four children: Michael Evatt of Greenup, IL, Hannah Evatt of Easley, Cayden Freeze of Easley, and Caleb Freeze of Easley; a grandson: Kolby Evatt; two siblings: Donald E. Freeze (Donna) of Easley and Donna Ann Maranto of Spartanburg; four nephews and their families: Donnie Freeze II, Seth Freeze, Nico Maranto, and Dante Maranto; five great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
