

Horace was born June 27, 1933 at the home of his parents Rev. and Mrs. Carl S. Holcombe. He grew up in the Eastatoee and Jocassee Valley communities. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953, and served two tours in the Vietnam War. He was awarded numerous medals, but most cherished his Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a flight engineer on C-130 aircraft. After retiring, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of American Legion Post 11 in Pickens.
Horace was a believer and proclaimer of God’s word, and an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon, treasurer, and custodian. He loved his church family.
He is survived by his loving spouse of sixty-one years, Mary Lois Ellenburg Holcombe; children Janice Garrison (Alan) of Pickens, and Jimmy Holcombe (Sahar) of Summerville; grandchildren Erin Bolde, Brett Garrison (Lauren), and Aisha Holcombe; great-grandchildren Ava Garrison and Lily Garrison; step-granddaughter Corrin Donahue, and step-great-granddaughter Ellie Donahue; brothers Cecil Holcombe (Beverly), Mike Holcombe (Mary), and Dan Holcombe (Carol); and many loving nieces and nephews. Horace was predeceased by his sister, Hazel Morgan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Dillard funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
