Billy was born in Pickens on August 12, 1950 to the late Rev. Lloyd C. and Estelle Pace Looper. He graduated proudly from Pickens High School in 1968, then went on to meet the love of his life during a trip to Myrtle Beach. Billy and Rosemary married in 1970, and began their family. In 1976, Billy was called to preach where he then went to Tabernacle Bible College, graduating in 1979. Once he had graduated, and became an ordained Minister, he and Rosemary went on to serve as church planters and missionaries in South Korea from 1980 through 1995. During his time in South Korea, Billy was a teacher and the basketball coach at the Korea Christian Academy, along with serving as Pastor of Yongsan Baptist Church in Seoul which included both American Military and International Members. Once he and Rosemary moved back home, he began serving as pastor in local churches which include: New Testament Baptist Church of Greenville (8 years), Saluda Hill Baptist Church in Cleveland, SC (10 years), and currently, up until his death, was the pastor of Oolenoy Baptist Church where he delivered the Word of God to his congregation. A proud teacher, he also began substituting at His Alma Mater, Pickens High School, along with teaching at the Tabernacle Bible College in Greenville. Billy lived a life that was selfless, and mentored numerous pastors throughout their career and truly had a love for his calling.
In addition to his loving wife of 51 years, Billy is survived by his three children: Brian Looper (Marla) of Palm Harbor, Florida, Joe Looper (Jeri Lynn) of Easley, and Tim Looper (Adrien) of Pickens; three brothers: Danny Looper (Cheryl) of Greensboro, NC, Tommy Looper (Virginia) of Myrtle Beach, and Jimmy Looper (Priscilla) of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Will Looper (Emily), Anabelle Looper, Abbey Looper, Ethan Gist, Jacob Looper, Claire Looper, and Reese Looper; and his "adopted" Korean son: Kim Hong Dae of Taejon, South Korea. Billy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and an extended family along with his numerous church families.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a brother: Scott Looper.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Oolenoy Baptist Church with a private entombment to take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 5:45 PM on Saturday, along with following the services Saturday, at Oolenoy Baptist Church.
