Dean Pitell (56) passed away suddenly Saturday, February 26, 2022, while on vacation with family and friends in Park City, Utah. Born on December 31, 1965, in Pittsburgh, PA, Dean is the son of the late Arthur Pitell and his surviving mother, Wilma. Dean is also survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Pamela Pitell, his two cherished daughters, Julia Anne and Dana Anne, his brother Tony Pitell, sister Sue Pitell Wallisch (Kurt), nephew Matthew, niece Natalie, and his sister-in-law Renee LaCivita.
Dean was a 1984 graduate of North Hills High School who filled his youth racing motocross, boating, skiing and otherwise enjoying high-flying outdoor activities with his brother, sister and friends. Never one to pass up a challenge or an opportunity, Dean was known for adventure, energy and always having a smile upon his face. He embraced all that life had to offer and had fun in the process.
A natural entrepreneur, soon after high school, Dean and his brother teamed up to open a home building business. Over the years that company grew into enterprises in addition to home building and remains a successful business today.
The product of a set-up by mutual friends, Dean met his loving wife Pam, and the two were married in a private ceremony in Grand Cayman just four months later. Together Dean and Pam enjoyed scuba diving, water skiing, snow skiing and traveling with friends. Dog enthusiasts, the couple filled their home with multiple fur-babies throughout the years.
A lover of adventure and time with family and friends, Dean’s most beloved time was that spent with his daughters Julia and Dana. Dean was a caring, supportive, involved and proud father. No time was more precious than that of cheering Julia on in her crew regattas or supporting Dana at games where she participated as a cheerleader.
An inseparable family unit, Dean and his three girls (Pam included) shared an energy for life and adventure. They did everything together, tackling life with the very enthusiasm and joy that served as the foundation for Dean’s life. Sharing his passion for building with those closest to him, Dean was always working on the family home in Wexford, PA. Together Dean and Pam created a place where family and friends frequently gathered to swim, celebrate, relax, and – most importantly – spend time together.
Most recently, the family invested in their dream home on Lake Norman, North Carolina. There Dean and Pam taught the girls to water ski, jet ski, and love all things lake related. Dean’s time on Lake Norman was cut short, but the gift that he left for his girls will provide a sanctuary of memories and love for many years to come. His echo will live on in the rev of the jet skis, the soft swish of the waves and the warm touch of the sun.
Determined to spend as much time with the girls as he could before they graduate, Dean was on the third ski trip of this year, feeling on top of the world and laughing with the ones he loved the most when he passed. He was a loyal friend to many, a loving son and brother, and a most devoted father and husband. Those that knew him believed Dean to be indestructible and are devastated by his loss. His life was unfairly cut short, leaving behind unfinished business and adventures. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers the family graciously suggests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, an organization that Dean and Pam have supported throughout their lives and which is near and dear to their hearts.. www.cff.org
