Donald Grossi, 78 of McCandless, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Son of late Orlando Grossi and Mildred Grossi (nee Costa). Don was a graduate of St. Louis High School in Honolulu. He is survived by his children Heidi L, Dawn C. Flenner and Troy A. Grossi.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Don was, at his core, a romantic. He met the love of his life, Gail Grossi (nee Hamburg) while she was schooling in Hawaii. Don followed Gail to Pittsburgh, where they were wed and embarked on the adventure of their lifetimes. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in family, hard work, and devotion, a bond that endured until Gail’s passing in 2015. Don continued his adventure after that loss with his adoring children, Dawn and Troy, their spouses, and his grandchildren.
Through relentless effort, incredible business acumen, and unstoppable persistence, Don founded and grew a highly successful marketing and advertising business. He earned respect for his success, intelligence, courage, and force of personality that made it possible.
Above all else, Don loved his family. He was fiercely proud of them and took great satisfaction in providing for and protecting them. He was loyal to those he loved and extraordinarily generous with his time, knowledge, and resources. He relished spoiling those he loved with gifts, knowledge, and mentorship.
Don brought humor, strength, a sharp mind, a love of cars, and an unmistakable energy to every room he entered. He treasured his various museum worthy collections, including classic cars, antique toys, and sculptures. A roadster and coupe guy, he playfully loathed cars with “too many doors.” Residents of McCandless likely recognize Don as the guy with the antique cars that you could see in his driveway every Saturday, sharing his passion with his family and anyone else who wandered in. The neighborhood is a less interesting place with the loss of Don.
Don is survived by his beloved children, Dawn Carole Flenner and Troy Alexander Grossi. He will also be deeply missed by Dawn’s husband, Andrew Flenner; by his grandson, Dylan Williams; by Troy’s wife, Debbie Grossi (nee Ingraham); and by his granddaughter, Addison.
Friends will be received Monday evening from 6-8pm in the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp., 412-364-4444. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers at t2t.org, an organization he strongly supported.
