I only knew her for a short time, but you know a good person when you meet one.  Elsie was definitely a good - wonderful - person.  She will be dearly missed, but I'm very grateful for the time that I spent with her.

I was very fortunate to be adopted by Elsie in my teen years because of my friendship with Richard.  She was always a woman with encouragement and great heart for anything I did.  Everyone should be so fortunate as to have an Elsie in their lives.

This is the Cotton Patch Quilter's Guild tribute.....

Elsie was a member of the guild for about 10 years starting in the early 90's.  She was confined to a wheelchair, but her spirit soared higher than any I have known.  She hosted several Bee's in her home, including the infamous "Friendly Starters" who lived up to their name by seldom finishing anything, but having lots of fun starting new projects.  She always had a smile on her face, was excited to know about what was going on in your life, and exceedingly generous with her time and her possessions.   

I feel sure that heaven now has a new Quilting Bee!!!!

Sleep well, Elsie. You'll always be in our hearts  and prayers.

Elsie was an inspiration to me when I first joined the Cotton Patch Quilters (Athens, GA).  Her smile was warm and inviting, and I sat next to her when ever possible at the monthly meetings.  We quilters were sorry to see her leave us when she moved to Pittsburgh.  Elsie and I stayed in touch via email, and when she heard my husband and I were in Pittsburgh, she invited us to drop by for a visit.  Not long after that I lost touch with Elsie but continued to remember her generous nature.  She was a blessing to so many.
