

Herbert Kaufman, age 82, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. He was devoted to his wife, Mary T. Kaufman; children Vicky Mejia, Neil Kaufman, and Rona (Kenneth) Kaufman; and his granddaughters Emily Mejia and Juniper Kaufman. He is also survived by his older brother Bernard Kaufman and many nieces and nephews. He has joined his parents Nathan and Rose (Adler) Kaufman, brother Jerome Kaufman and sister Eleanor K. Haas.
Herb was born on July 19, 1940, in Pittsburgh and grew up in Squirrel Hill. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who was honorably discharged in 1966. He was a proud member of the Jewish War Veterans Association and the American Legion. After the Army, he graduated from Robert Morris College, majoring in Business Administration.
Herb worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an auditor, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and served as treasurer. He and Mary had an accounting practice, M. T. Kaufman Accounting, for over 50 years. He also taught Accounting for Community College of Allegheny County. He and his family were founding members of Temple Ohav Shalom in the North Hills; Herb also served as treasurer. He was a long-time volunteer for Big Brothers and Sisters of Pittsburgh and coached softball for many years. He was an enthusiastic Steelers fan. Herb had the biggest, kindest, and most generous heart and loved taking care of people—his clients, friends, and most especially his family.
A visitation will be held at on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 10AM at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Highway Pittsburgh PA 15237 followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Internment service will take place immediately afterward at Beth Abraham Cemetery 790 Stewart Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15227. We will sit shiva on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.
