Suzanne (Girton) Gowdy North, 92, of Chapel Hill, N.C., passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. She was born on May 17, 1922 in Paris, France, a daughter of the late Delbert & Edna Girton. She was the beloved mother of Susan Thomison (James Rohm) and the late Miya Gowdy; grandmother of Lisa Brandt, Mitchel Meissner and Samantha Andrjzewski; great grandmother of Orion, Autumn, Finn, Jacob, Elijah and Madison. She is also survived by a brother, George Girton.
In addition to her parents and daughter, she was preceded in death by husbands, Howard Gowdy and Gerald North, as well as a sister, Margaret Graves.
Prior to her retirement, Suzanne worked as a successful real estate agent in Kenilworth, IL. When she retired she moved to Ferrington, NC. It was there that she began to volunteer at Duke University Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She absolutely loved her time at Duke, volunteering up until the age of 91 and even received an award as volunteer of the year. Suzanne also had a love for the arts, especially the theater. This led her to take speech and acting classes. Suzanne always followed her dreams, which often lead her traveling around the world to explore new cultures and lands.
Suzanne will be remembered by those who knew her as a strong woman, a woman of class and character who was always very well put together. Her family will remember her as a kind, strict, but loving mother and grandmother that possessed a huge heart and was always there for them.
