Born at home on February 19, 1932, in Newton Falls, Ohio, Evelyn was the daughter of Clifford John and Ruby Frances (Adams) Allen and was the sixth of eight children. She graduated from Paris Township High School in Paris, Ohio, and worked at General Electric in Warren, Ohio, before moving to Placerville, California, when she was 25.
When she made the long journey across the country (her first time traveling west of the Mississippi River), she was married to Harold Haas, with whom she had three children. Once settled, she began to work at a five-and-dime store before becoming a nursing assistant at Marshall Medical Center, where she remained for many years. Later in life she married Dan Marks, who predeceased her.
Evelyn loved animals, enjoyed helping people, and was an enthusiastic vegetarian who believed that good nutrition resulted in good health. She attended church at the Placerville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Evelyn will be remembered with love by her surviving son, Thomas Haas; daughter, Brenda Haas; granddaughter, Suzann (Patrick) Bush; identical twin sister, Esther Richardson Jones; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Ronald Haas, sisters Shirley Gregg Yates Baughman, Norma Balzer Husman, Kathryn Winifred Willaman, Audrey Turner, and Dolores Richardson, and brother Clifford Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people who loved and were loved by Evelyn to show kindness to each other and to animals. For those who wish to make material contributions in her memory, the family suggests the El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter at https://www.edcgov.us/animalservices.
