

Gregory Wallace Wheale, 60, died Sunday, September 18th in the town of El Dorado, CA. Greg always enjoyed photography, especially landscapes and animals. He also produced “found art,” beautiful, zany, original sculptural pieces in wood and mixed media.
He loved hiking, camping, exploring and storytelling, regaling listeners with tales of his exploits.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late H. Douglas Wheale and the late Mary Elizabeth Wheale, and loving step-son of Grace Nelson Wheale, of Wilmington, NC.
He was a resident of El Dorado County for 30 years and retired last year from the County of Sacramento, CA.
Prior to that, he lived in Humboldt County, working in the logging industry.
Surviving in addition to his stepmother, Grace Wheale, are his daughter Heather Brooke Wheale of Sacramento, his brother Duncan Wheale and wife, Carolyn, of Cashiers, NC, sisters Sandra Klassen and husband Kenneth of Wilmington, NC, and Kathy Wheale and husband Bob Cathey of Greenville.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Pines, Placerville, at 3:00 PM Friday, September 23th, with visitation after the service. Burial will follow later in the Wheale family cemetery, Cashiers, NC.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the El Dorado Arts Council.
