Margaret Deeg passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in the home she built with her husband.
Born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, on December 2, 1926, to Edna Mae and Skyler Thomas Hamilton, Margaret was one of twelve children. As a teenager, she traveled to California, first staying in Vallejo before settling in El Dorado County, where she would build a life and community that spanned more than 75 years.
Margaret was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She found joy in watching her family grow. Holiday gatherings, birthday celebrations, and her thoughtful birthday phone calls were traditions her family will remember. Her legacy lives on through her 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She dedicated more than 35 years of service to Marshall Hospital, working her way up to the position operating room technician. Margaret valued her work deeply and formed lasting relationships with the doctors, nurses, and colleagues she worked alongside.
She served as the treasurer for the Shingle Springs Community Center for more than twenty years, working with community members to ensure the financial stability of the center.
Outside of work, Margaret demonstrated a vibrant and creative spirit. She loved crocheting, gardening, making candy, playing bingo, and visiting the casino. Her homemade candies became a treasured tradition during the holidays, and her well-known “yarn barn” provided her and family members with the yarn needed for projects.
A lifelong learner, Margaret held a deep love of reading. She often spoke fondly of the teachers who inspired her as a child. Well into her 90s, she read every section of the Sacramento Bee and the Daily Democrat, eagerly sharing what she learned with others. In fulfillment of a lifelong goal, she earned her high school diploma in June 1971—an achievement that reflected her determination and love of learning.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Deeg; her son, Larry Beaman; and her stepdaughter, Gloria Scott.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Beverly Harlow, Jerry and Lorraine Beaman, Norman Jr. and Judy Deeg, Norma (Deeg) Rajevich; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Beaman; and her brother, Roy Hamilton.
