Mary Valerie Majewski was born on June 16, 1913, of Polish immigrant parents in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away peacefully on May 21, 2015, surrounded by her family in Placerville, California. Mary was a beloved wife and mother whose strong faith and love of family sustained her for over 101 years of life.
Mary loved helping people and taking part in activities of the community. She was a selfless contributor of her efforts to Friends of Snowline Hospice where she was president from 1987 to 1989. She held numerous offices with the Golden Land and Home Garden Club of Placerville, including president, treasurer and secretary and was a member of the altar society of St. Theresa parish in South Lake Tahoe and a long-time member of the Ladies Society of St. Patrick’s Parish in Placerville.
Mary had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who have always found her to be charming, generous and gracious. Her children’s school friends were always welcome at the Majewski home and, since her passing, have expressed their love and shared fond memories they have of her. She loved playing cards with her family and friends on Friday nights and was a passionate 49ers fan.
Mary was an 11 year breast cancer survivor and participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life through 2013. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl and her daughters Christine Hatch and Jacqueline Potter. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Wright, son Anthony Majewski and wife Christine, grandchildren Catherine Green, Patricia Green, Mary Apperson, Col. Kenneth Rodgers and his wife Janine, Kimberly Rodgers, Jeffrey VanSteenberg and Gregory Majewski, as well as nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local hospice society or your favorite charity. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015, at St. Patrick’s Church, 3109 Sacramento St. Placerville, CA 95667, with a rosary at 10:30 am and Mass at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the church hall. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, Placerville.
