Richard Lee Crow died on Feb. 8, 2018 in Folsom, Calif. He was born in Chickasha, Okla. and grew up in Bakersfield, Calif., Richard graduated in 1957 from North High School in Oildale, Calif. He married Veda Hooper on June 17, 1960 and they were married for 57 1/2 years.
Richard received his Master of Art Degree from Pepperdine University in 1966. He moved to Placerville to work with El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools as a Speech Therapist, also as Director of Special Education Department. He taught K-8 at Silver Fork School in Kyburz, Calif, and was an Education Consultant for the Deaf, Blind, and Neurologically Disabled with California State Department of Education in Sacramento, Calif.
Richard retired in 2001. He wrote and published a novel, “Ashes of Destiny.” Writing and music were Dick’s hobbies. He wrote articles for the Northside News newspaper in Oildale, Calif. Dick and Veda owned & operated a Home for Developmentally Disabled Adults for 13 years. They lived in El Dorado County for 46 years. He held the title of being the most credentialed person in El Dorado County. Richard loved Hawaii and music, always had a good joke to share and was a great storyteller. He loved and served his family, as well as his church family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John R. & Belvie Gurie Crow; his grandparents, Daniel & Ethyl Crow, Elzie & Nora Hunt; his sister, Ellen Marie Parker. Richard is survived by his wife of 57 1/2 years, Veda G. (Hooper) Crow; his sons, Richard Daniel and David Cory Crow; his daughters, Deborah Gaye Mattson and Kathleen Marie Norwood; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 11:00ish, at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, Marshall Reception Hall, 100 Placerville Dr., Placerville, Calif. 95667.
