Agnes Jean Kiertscher of Murphy, Texas, passed away on January 23, 2025. Agnes (Ag or Aggie to her family) was born December 17, 1954 in DeKalb, IL to Jean and Jerome Herrmann of Shabbona, Illinois. Ag grew up on a rural Illinois farm with her 11 brothers and sisters, where she began her lifelong love of reading.
As a teenager, Ag worked at the local Dog and Suds restaurant. After graduating as valedictorian from Shabbona High School in 1973, she first attended Millikin University in Decatur, then University of Illinois in Urbana, where she met Don Kiertscher, a fellow Electrical Engineering major. After marrying Don in 1977, Ag left U of I and worked as a secretary at Johnson and Johnson in the Chicago suburbs until the early 1980s. While taking care of her sons Jeff and Alex, Ag extensively volunteered: PTA parliamentarian, treasurer, vice president, and president, publishing elementary school directories, coordinating school carnival fundraisers…and around the home…school homework checker, pool lifeguard, driving co-instructor, high school marching band taxi, Uno, and Crazy 8s player.
In the late 1990s, Ag began substituting in Wylie ISD libraries, and became the McMillan Junior High School registrar in 2003. Continuing her love of math and numbers, she became the district-wide Wylie ISD PEIMS coordinator in 2009, a position enjoyed until her passing. She was often sewing, baking, watching the grandkids’ baseball and soccer games, band concerts, and marching band performances.
Agnes is survived by her husband of 47 years, Don; son Jeff of San Antonio, Texas; son Alex (Elizabeth) of Sachse, Texas; grandchildren Megan, Cody, Kyle, and Heiko; sisters Therese, Annette (Robert), Lucille (Ray), Denise; brothers Larry (Afsaneh), Gerry (Lynne), Matt (Ellen), Anthony (Kay), brothers in law Walter and Dennis, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Jean, and sisters Margaret, Helen, and Evelyn.
