Alma Laverne Smithson

Alma Smithson, 90, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully at her daughters home on March 08, 2015. She was born November 19, 1924 in Chattanooga, Oklahoma to Florence and Larence Melton and her family moved to Plano when she was 6 months old.

Alma graduated from Plano High School in 1942. She worked as a waitres and General Manager for hays Café in downtown Plano for 35 years and married Noel R. Smithson Sr. on May 27, 1946. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Plano.

She is survived by her children Noel Smithson Jr. of Forney, TX, Scott L. Smithson, and wife Jeannie, of St. Louis, MO, Lisa Wyrick, and husband Stacey, of Lucas, TX; Honorary children Carmen Gutierez of Plano, TX and Hecot Gutierrez of Mante, Tamaulipas Mexico; grandchildren Sid Smithson, and wife Denise, of Gainesville, GA, Scott Smithson Jr., and wife Colleen, of St. Louis, MO, Katie Smithson of St. Louis,MO, Shane Smithson of St. Louis, MO, Hannah Wyrick of Lucas, TX, Jessica Smithson of Royce City, TX, Stephanie Smithson of Royce City, TX, Miguel Gutierrez of Plano, TX, Luis Gutierrez, and wife Emma, of Mineral Wells, and Jacqueline Gutierrez of Arlington, TX; great grandchildren Logan Smithson, Liam Smithson, Laney Smithson, and Lauren Gutierrez; and many other loving family members and friends.

The last 18 months of her life were blessed with the companionship and caretaking of Shay O’Bryant, with whom she loved, adored and considered family.

She was preceded in death by husband Noel R. Smithson Sr.; her sisters, Lois Lewis, Marie Hardin, Billie Man; and her son James L. Smithson.

A visitation will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Ted Dickey Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the 1st Baptist Church of Plano on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10 AM with a burial following at Restland Memorial Park.
