Polly was adopted at the age of two, by Ellis R. and Mamie Beatrice Dressler of Virginia. She was raised in a very loving home, and was adored by her adoptive mother, Mamie. Hardship was not uncommon in Polly’s life, as she suddenly lost her adoptive father Ellis when she was twelve years old. After Ellis’s death, Polly and her mother moved into a boarding house that was run by her aunts. She learned at a young age how to be a hard worker through babysitting her cousins, as well as cooking and cleaning for other tenants at the boarding house. She met many wonderful people while living here, including her future husband, George Cordier.
Polly and George got married in Virginia on her birthday, April 29, 1956. After a few years of marriage, they moved to upstate New York and eventually settled in Plano,Texas in the summer of 1969, where they both lived out the rest of their days. Polly and George had 4 children.
Polly worked tirelessly for Plano Independent School District for many years. She started out at Bowman Middle school as a cafeteria worker and then moved on to Forman Elementary as a special education teacher’s aide. Working with children with special needs was her passion. Throughout the years, she shared many heartwarming stories about the wonderful students she had the joy of mentoring.
Outside of work, she had many interests and loved to serve others. She was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, faithfully rooting from the TV sidelines anytime they played. She sponsored a child in Honduras. She wrote letters to people in prison, as well as many notes to people who were sick. She worked with AWANAs. She did all these things in spite of her chronic back pain from scoliosis and a herniated disk. Polly exemplified putting others before herself. She was a true example of what the hands and feet of Jesus should look like.
Polly is preceded in death by her husband, George Donald Cordier, and her son, David Mark Cordier. She is survived by her three daughters, Rachel Gigliotta, Becky Williams, and Mary Busch. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Chris Cordier, Anthony, Eli, and Samuel Gigliotta, Jeremey and Stepheney Williams, and Aaron and Lauren Busch. Polly is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and other various relatives in Virginia and New York.
Polly is remembered as a sweet and gentle soul. She had a quick and witty sense of humor, and had the unique ability to turn many of her sentences into songs. She had a beautiful voice and especially loved singing in church. She was a very generous person, and loved to spoil her grandchildren with this benevolent spirit. She relished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Polly’s home church, Plano Bible Chapel, Plano, Texas. Her visitation service will be held at 12:00-1:00 PM, prior to her funeral service at 1:00 PM
