She attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas. Cleo continued a family tradition of teaching piano, in her younger days while raising her three daughters in Wichita Falls, Texas and later went into real estate while living in Richardson, Texas and in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
She was married to James (Jim) Claude Pipkin until he died in 1983 while they were living in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Cleo felt living in Hot Springs Village was their very own slice of heaven and an answer to a life long dream of Cleo's to be surrounded by tall trees, trails, and fresh air. Along with continuing her real estate career in Hot Springs Village she, also, nurtured her passion of music and entertaining by singing with the HSV chapter of Sweet Adelines.
She and Jim were members of Kirk of the Pines Presbyterian Church in Arkansas. Cleo returned to teaching piano when she was 87 years old and continued to teach until she was almost 93. Teaching kept her young, along with her love of her family and also her fresh organic diet, natural remedies, and daily walking. In fact, she was able to walk until she left her earthly home on Memorial Day, May 25th, 2015, at Mayberry Gardens, fully cognizant and in the arms of her youngest daughter.
The family had gathered for a cherished day of singing the day before where Cleo was very much a part of the gathering and loved every moment.
She called it her Memorial.
She leaves behind three daughters: Sarah Kuh, spouse Paul, who reside in Clemmons, NC; Rita Cheek, spouse Randy, who reside in Plano, TX, and Dr. Keila Nichols, spouse Tony, who reside in Richardson, TX. Cleo thoroughly enjoyed 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and two more expected in the Fall.
Her deeds, her humor and her love will be deeply missed, but she is now surrounded by Perfect Peace and Perfect Love in the arms of her Faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, all glory to God.
Services for Cleo's Celebration of Life will be June 6th, 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, Plano, TX , where she resided for many years.
Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano, Texas has charge of arrangements.
