Dave succumbed to the effects of a previously undiagnosed heart condition.
Dave was born in Boise, Idaho on November 21, 1951, to his parents Wendell Dee and Melba Azele Crandall. Dave spent his early childhood years in Boise before moving to Bakersfield, California where he would spend most of his teen years. Before his senior year in high school, Dave’s family moved to Mesa, Arizona.
Dave served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years in an area that covered the northeastern portion of the United States and maritime provinces of Canada. While a missionary, he begrudgingly started a “pen pal” correspondence with a young woman acquainted with one of his fellow missionaries. Over the ensuing eight months, those letters would quickly turn into love, and they would ultimately marry upon completion of his service. Dave and Geniel were married and sealed for time and all eternity on September 7, 1973 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. They shared a magical love for each other that endures beyond this earth and into the heavenly realm.
Dave served in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in Illinois and Montana. During that time, Dave and Geniel welcomed their first three sons. Upon his discharge, they moved to the Salt Lake City area so Dave could attend college at Brigham Young University. Dave’s goal was to become a salesman. Dave received the right offer before he graduated and began working as a sales representative in Salt Lake City.
Dave and Geniel relocated to the Phoenix, Arizona area and ultimately to Plano, Texas in 1979. They truly embraced all that it means to be Texan and welcomed their fourth son in 1983, completing their family of boys. Dave started his own business as an independent sales representative in the gift and tourism industry, a job he truly loved and one that provided nicely for his growing family. Geniel passed away in 2018, and Dave was never complete without her around. He had plans to retire at the end of 2024, but as is usually the case for everyone, God had other plans for him. We are confident that his reunion with her was both sweet and overdue. We know that Dave and Geniel are together again at last. In the eternities, they belong to each other and to their family.
Dave and Geniel were lifelong active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dave loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and did his best to emulate his example in his everyday life. Dave worked with hundreds of customers over his 45 years in business. He is loved and revered by just about everyone he has ever met. He made many life-long friends in his church family and his career and left an indelible imprint on everyone he encountered. He is loved and will be missed by all. He leaves a legacy of love and service emulated in the lives of his sons and grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by his wife Geniel, his parents (Wendell and Melba), three siblings (Wendell Dee Jr. and John Leslie Crandall and Janet Lynne Carlson) and one granddaughter (Nicole Crandall). He is survived by his four sons (Brian, Brent, Mark, and Scott) and their wives as well as 8 grandchildren (Jeremy, Amanda, Matthew, Maxwell, Jera, Tyler, Andrew, and David) and four siblings (Linda Bigler, Larry Crandall, Karen Nolan, and Marina Busby).
Dave was not much for decoration. He never saw the need. But he was passionate about serving others and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation in his name to either of the following charities:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund (100% of these donations are spent to help the impoverished and otherwise needy throughout the world.)
