Dinah Polly Hansen Kern, age 83, of Richardson, Texas passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2019. Dinah was born to Walter and AnnaBelle Hansen on September 20, 1935, in Waco, Texas. She was baptized on November 24, 1935, and confirmed June 18, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, Texas.
Dinah graduated from Clifton High School in May 1954, and from the University of Houston in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
On September 6, 1958, she married Byron Kern whom she met at the Lutheran Student Association at the University of Texas in Austin in September 1954. Dinah and Byron have two sons, Nathan and Jonathan. Both graduated from the University of Texas - Nathan with a degree in electrical engineering and Jonathan graduated from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas as a Radiologist.
Dinah was a stay at home mom except for a brief teaching position in Houston. She enjoyed giving birthday parties for the boys and entertaining at those and other parties. She performed as a troll at a regional Girl Scout meeting as a representative of the Norwegian Society of Texas. She was an active member of the church, the CPA Wives Club of Dallas, the Norwegian Society of Texas, and as a Club Scout Den mother.
She is survived by her husband Byron, sons Nathan and his wife Kelly, Jonathan and his wife Carol, and five grandsons, David, Dale, Douglas (Nathan), Bryan, and Brandon (Jonathan), her sister Dr. Minah Hansen, and many more relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church of Plano.
A funeral service for Dinah will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 1701 E. Park Blvd., Plano, TX 75074. A committal service will occur Monday, March 25, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 4450 Hwy. 6, Clifton, TX 76634.
