

Dolores Peña Garcia passed away on Sunday, October 20th, 2013. Born June 27th, 1956, in Uvalde, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Fidel Maldonado Garcia and Estella Peña Garcia. She received her Bachelor’s degree at San Angelo State University, and earned a Master’s degree from SMU. A thoughtful and dedicated teacher, Dolores taught for 34 years, the majority of them at Davis Elementary in Plano. Loved by co-workers and students alike, Dolores taught 2nd grade bilingual. Faith played an important part of her life and she found comfort in the church. She enjoyed sewing and listening to music (from Led Zeppelin to Jerry Vale), crafting, and spending time with her beloved family. She is survived by her sisters, Elvia, and Mary (married to Joe Caldwell), her son Xavie, and his wife, Cara. She is also survived by the Trejo family, Eleanor and the Jasso family, the Ibarra family, the Cremar family, the De La Cruz family, the Suchland family, the Valdez families, Peña families and family from Idaho, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and California. She is also survived by her close family of co-workers and friends at Davis Elementary. Her sister, Norma Linda, preceded her in death. The visitation is from 7PM to 9PM on Friday, October 25th, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home (located at 2128 18th St. in Plano). Funeral mass starts at 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 26th at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church. The burial will follow at the Plano Mutual Cemetery.
