Florencio Adalin Macaraig, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on February 23, 1946, in Alitagtag, a town nestled in the heart of Batangas and bordered by the serene waters of Taal Lake, he was the cherished son of Juan Macaraig Sr. and Domitela (Adalin) Macaraig.
Florencio graduated with his degree from the University of the East College of Business Administration in the Philippines in 1970, an accomplishment that reflected his determination, discipline, and commitment to building a meaningful future. After immigrating to the United States, he began what would become a distinguished 31‑year career at Amcor White Cap, where he served as a senior research scientist specializing in analytical chemistry.
Florencio’s journey in the United States also led him to the moment that would define his personal life. During a visit to the University of Chicago—where he was accompanying a friend who was enrolling—Florencio experienced a chance encounter that would change the course of his life. It was there that he first met Melody, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. Months later, fate intervened again when they crossed paths on the subway. Not wanting to miss a second opportunity, Florencio offered to buy her ticket and asked her on a date. That simple, heartfelt gesture blossomed into a love story that endured for more than five decades. Florencio and Melody were married on March 1, 1975, in Chicago, and together they welcomed two daughters, Faye and Betsy. Their marriage was a testament to steadfast devotion, shared purpose, and a love that carried them through every season of life.
A dedicated chemist throughout his career, Florencio approached his work with curiosity, precision, and pride. Yet it was in retirement that he embraced some of his greatest joys. He was an enthusiastic golfer—always cheering for his favorite player, Jason Day—and a spirited karaoke singer who loved belting out Frank Sinatra classics. He was also a passionate mahjong player and a proud member of the Mahjong Addicts, a group of friends who gathered often around the tiles and laughter of the game.
Florencio’s love of food, travel, and adventure took him and Melody across the world on countless cruises. Among the many places they explored, Israel, Australia, and Greece held a special place in his heart. Florencio’s zest for life was perhaps most evident in the way he embraced food and travel. He was a true food lover who found delight not only in the flavors of a meal but in the stories, cultures, and memories that came with it. Whether savoring a perfectly grilled dish on a cruise ship, seeking out local specialties during his travels, or enjoying a simple home-cooked meal with family, he approached every bite with appreciation and curiosity. Food, for him, was a way of connecting—with people, with places, and with the world.
A loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, he never lost his enthusiasm for the teams that connected him to the city where his American story began.
Florencio is survived by his devoted wife, Melody; his daughters, Faye Moore (Todd) and Betsy Rose (Jared); his granddaughter, Haili Moore; his beloved dogs—Cupcake, Jax, Daisy, and Remington—and his many feline companions. He leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends who will forever cherish his warmth, humor, and unwavering love.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Florencio at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30th, 2026 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr, Plano, Texas 75075.
A reception will follow services at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St, Plano, Texas 75074.
Florencio lived a life defined by kindness, curiosity, and deep devotion to the people he loved. His legacy endures in the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the quiet strength he offered so freely. Though he has departed this world, the imprint of his life remains—steady, bright, and enduring in the hearts of all who knew him.
