Frances Ellen Andersen, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, in Plano, Texas. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 4, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St. in Plano. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Nativity, 2200 18th St. in Plano.
Frances was born Frances Ellen Simmons on Sept. 30, 1930, in Houston, Texas, to Carey E. and Mary Rita Simmons. She spent her childhood in Houston and Rosenberg, Texas, and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston. A 1952 graduate of the University of Houston, Frances worked as an executive secretary for Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, now ExxonMobil, until 1962. She married Donald Knight Andersen, her loving husband, on Oct. 8, 1955. They lived in Houston until moving to Plano in 1976. Frances was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Nativity in Plano, where she served as a member of and director of the altar guild and was involved in other church activities. She also enjoyed traveling with Don and watching football.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Village at Mapleshade in Plano, where Frances lived the last two years of her life, and the staff of Charlin Hospice.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of almost 54 years, Donald Andersen; her parents; and two brothers, James Simmons and John Simmons. She is survived by daughters, Janet Johnson and husband, Bill, of Kuna, Idaho; Nancy Kolsti and husband, Kenneth, of Trophy Club, Texas; and Cathy Woodward and husband, Ted, of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, April Sauter and husband, Tommy, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Will Johnson of Boise, Idaho; and James, Robert, Rachel and Joseph Woodward of Round Rock, as well as several nieces and nephews.
