Irene Lundberg

Dr. Martin A. Johnson and Miriam Wester Johnson welcomed their first-born child, Irene Miriam Ethelyn, on July 26, 1920. She graduated from Albert City Consolidated High School in May, 1937, and married her high school sweetheart, Alvin Lundberg, on June 11, 1939. They moved with their four children to Plano, TX in 1956 and joined the First Methodist Church where she faithfully served as long as her health allowed.

Irene was a natural born leader who loved being in the spotlight. Her numerous activities included charter member of Wesleyan Angels Service Guild of FUMC; serving as president of Plano Chapter of Business and Professional Women, and acting as an unofficial greeter to new residents of Plano when she worked as a buyer and manager at Plano Lumber & Hardware Co. She retired after 25 years at Plano Lumber, allowing her many years to travel in the U.S. and abroad.

Irene remained adventurous into her later years when she dared to hang-glide, parasail, and even ride a Harley-Davidson at age 91. She lived in Plano until moving to Big Canoe, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Andree Dawn Worley. Survivors are her sister, Inez Christenson, and sister-in-law, LaVonne Haburn. Her four children are Wayde (Eileen) Lundberg of Apopka, FL, Rhumel (Rita) Lundberg of Sachse, TX, Rochelle (Don) Stubbs of Big Canoe, GA, and Brian (Cindy) Lundberg of Hempstead, TX. Grandchildren are Daphne (Sean) Daniels, Ross (Heather) Lundberg, Randall (Shannon) Lundberg, Derek Stubbs, Ryan Lundberg, Dustin (Alaina) Lundberg. Great grandchildren are Adrian, Aubrey, Alden Daniels; Harrison, Chloe, Olivia, Cameron, and Abigail Lundberg. Also surviving are six nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Irene Lundberg loved people and truly loved the Lord. She passed away on February 10, 2016, in Jasper, GA.

There will be a service held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11 AM. The visitation will take place the night before, Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Ted Dickey Funeral Home from 6-8.
