He was born in Anna, Illinois to Guy and Ethel Keller. Being a Christmas baby, his birth was celebrated in his small Southern Illinois town. He joined his big sister Georgianne.
He would tell you that the reason he turned out to be the man he did was because of the love of his grandparents Ray and Orpha Keller.
After high school, Kay enlisted in the Air Force. He served as a Communication and Radio Operator on C54s with Material Air Transport Service-57* Transport Service as an A/1C, which enabled him to see the world from Iceland to Morocco to Panama.
In 1957, he met the love of his life Anne Kelliher when they were both stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. They married in January of 1958. Their first child, Laura, was born in July of 1959 and soon after Kay was honorably discharged and they moved to Illinois. After a short stay in Illinois, they moved to Missouri where their second child, Joseph, was born in March, 1961 in St. Charles. In 1963, they moved their little family to Garland, Texas where after a brief stint with Continental Emsco, Kay got a job with Texas Instruments where he would work for over 40 years.
Three more children followed...Lynne, Daniel and James. He spent his time supporting and raising his family, coaching his boys in baseball and volunteering with Garner Little League. After retiring, Kay and Anne spent their time golfing and traveling the world to places as far as Australia, New Zealand, Russia and many more destinations. He also got his pilot's license, took sailing lessons and scuba dived. He even did a shark dive!
Kay and Anne moved to Frisco, Texas where they enjoyed golfing, going to the movies and eating out.
While dementia slowly took away our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, our many, many memories sustained and comforted us.
Kay is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anne Keller. His five children, Laura Edney (Tony) of Plano, Joseph Keller (Eileen) of Frisco, Lynne Sander (James) of Plano, Daniel Keller of Plano, and James Keller (Jill) of Allen. His legacy is strong with his 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Ray and Orpha Keller, his parents Guy and Ethel Keller and his sister Georgianne Wieman.
We would like to thank the wonderful people at Sunrise Plano who looked after Dad these last several months. And also, the dedicated Hospice workers who worked tirelessly to make the end of his earthly life as comfortable as possible.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Tunnels to Towers (t2t.org). Kay loved to support all Veteran's organizations.
