

Louise Sherrill, age 96, of Plano died Thursday March 15, 2012 at The Collinwood Nursing Center in Plano after a lengthy illness. Louise was born in McKinney, Texas on August 20, 1915, the daughter of Arthur Bagwill and Evelyn Jones Bagwill. She was a prominent civic leader in Plano. As she put it, “I was literally reared in the Plano Star Courier office.” Her father Arthur Bagwill began his career with the McKinney Courier Gazette and later owned and published the Plano Star Courier. After graduating from Plano High, School Louise earned her journalism degree from Texas Women’s University in 1937 and followed in her Father’s footsteps. She served on the Plano City Council from 1973 to 1979 and was also the President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and was editor of the “Texas Women” publication. She also served on Plano’s Charter Review Board and the Plano Human Relations Commission in the 1960s.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Linda Hill and her husband Bill Hill, by cousins Gary, Dittrick and Arland Sherrill and Laurie Blake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Bagwill and Evelyn Jones Bagwill, by her sister Evelyn Janelle Bagwill and by grandsons Bill and Don Hill.
A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Tuesday afternoon March 20th at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church of Plano under the direction of Ted Dickey Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall.
