Mellie Marie Shoemaker

Mellie “Marie” ( Lawson) Shoemaker was born Feb 6, 1935 in Manila, AR. She went to meet her Lord and Savior on Aug 3, 2012 after a year of physical health issues. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Shoemaker, her daughter, Lisa Faye Alexander and her granddaughter Rachel Anne Shupe. Marie was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of Hunters’ Glen Baptist Church. Marie had a love and passion for cooking. She was able to share that love with her family and with many others. Through the years she used this ministry by cooking and serving at the Ronald McDonald House, Samaritan Inn, Hunters’ Glen Baptist Church and whenever a meal was needed by anyone. She also loved the many children she cared for in CLC at Prestonwood Baptist Church and the Collin County Advocacy Center. Family was the essence of Marie. She loved family reunions and never missed a chance to be with family or friends and lovingly called “Mimi” by her 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Special loving thanks to caretakers, Winnie and George. Marie is survived by 4 children who loved her dearly. Sons: Bruce and wife Darlene Shoemaker of West Columbia, TX; Brian and wife Stephanie Shoemaker of Little Elm, TX and daughters: Pam and husband John Mello of Valrico, FL; Vicki and Barney Shupe of Carrollton, TX; Sister Doy Faye and husband Jim Jenkins of Smackover, AR. Viewing will be held Monday, Aug 6, 6:30-8:30 pm at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, East Plano and Memorial Service on Tuesday, Aug 7, 10:30 am at Hunters’ Glen Baptist Church, Plano, TX. Final resting place is the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, TX at a later date joining her husband.
