Paul Selman Adams, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021, in Dallas, Texas.

Paul was born in Dallas on February 8, 1929, and was married to his loving wife, Susan, for 60 years. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Paul graduated from Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University, where he studied law and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. After serving two years in the U.S. Army in Japan, Paul began practicing law as a civil litigator, a career that spanned nearly 40 years.

Paul was a member of the Dallas Country Club and Coon Creek Club, where he was an avid bass fisherman. His lifelong passion centered on sports at Highland Park and SMU, two institutions that helped shape his life and which he supported until his death.

Paul possessed great character that was defined by his love for his community and for the people in it. He could often be found holding an audience of family and friends as he spun stories that reflected a life filled with making others feel good about their own lives. Paul was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor.

Paul is predeceased by his parents, Paul Selman Adams, Sr. and Ruth Jones Adams.

Paul is survived by his children Paul S. Adams III (Lynne), Margaret Adams Bryant (Mike), Mary Adams Chaffe (William), John Adams, Robert Adams (Allison); his grandchildren Paul Adams IV, Olivia Adams, Susan Bryant Pohl (Luke), Matthew Bryant, John Bryant, Michael Bryant, Mary Margaret Chaffe Daly (Jack), Elizabeth Chaffe, William Chaffe, Molly Adams, Caroline Adams, Emily Adams, Dallas Adams and Adelaide Adams; and his brother William Adams (Mollye).

A private service will be held with immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in support of SMU athletics through the Cash Birdwell Endowment at SMU.
