Philip graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. After working at Westinghouse Electric, Varo, Inc., and Texas Instruments, he began a second career as a life insurance agent. Philip was a career agent and a partner with The Insurance Group until he retired in 2010. He was a Christian man of great faith. Philip and Janet joined First United Methodist Church of Plano in 1968. He held many positions over the years with the Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Vera Garlington, as well as his sister, Norma Garlington.
Philip is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Garlington; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Ryan Johnson of Lufkin, TX; daughter, Rebecca Garlington of Belmont, NC; four loving grandchildren: Anthony Pippen of Belmont, NC, Austin Pippen of San Marcos, CA, Kristina Johnson of Lufkin, TX, and Evan Johnson of Lufkin, TX; and one great-grandchild, Avery Pippen of Belmont, NC.
Philip will be sorely missed. He was a great friend and mentor to many people. He loved every minute of his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. They will all miss their PaPa tremendously.
The family will host a visitation on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, from 6pm to 8pm at Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano. Funeral will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 10, at First United Methodist Church in Plano. Graveside services will take place at 10am on Saturday, August 12, in Blackjack Cemetery – Pitkin, LA.
