Bob Gates passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 5. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1926 and served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and later received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas. He went to Dallas and worked as an engineer at Dallas Power & Light for many years. The love of his life was his Lord and his church where he served as a lay reader for years and as a member of the Society of Mary, the Brotherhood of St. Andrews, and Tuesday Night Bible study. Throughout the years Bob developed a love and close friendship with a very large and wonderful family, the Gerbers, and together they worshipped the Lord. Bob was very interested in aviation and had a pilot’s license. He fiddled with cameras and had a house full of them. Also, he loved to go to garage sales and look for bargains. Bob is survived by his sister, Louanne Whatley and her husband Carl, many nieces and nephews, plus a whole host of warm-hearted friends at Holy Nativity Church. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Holy Nativity, 2200 18th St., Plano, TX. Viewing will be at Ted Dickey Funeral Home next to Holy Nativity from 6-8 pm., Friday.
