Rory James Miroslav Costigan

21 July, 19964 October, 2019

Rory James Miroslav Costigan, beloved son and brother, died in his family home on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the age of 23.

Cremation Rites will be accorded.

Rory was born in Varna, Bulgaria on July 21, 1996. His parents, Mike and Suzanne Costigan, brought their son home to Texas on May 13, 2000 to his sister Karyn and a large extended family in Richardson, Texas. Rory celebrated his adoption or “gotcha” date annually and became a US citizen in 2001.

From a young age, Rory lived a life of service and giving back to others. He had many accomplishments as a young man, including achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow, Vigil honor.

Rory graduated from Richardson High School in 2015 where he enjoyed and excelled at cross country running. He also attended Texas A&M University in Texarkana, TX.

Rory had an uncontainable spirit, infectious smile, strong work ethic, and a drive to accomplish big things in life. He loved his family, friends, the outdoors, John Wayne movies, working on cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and spending time at his uncle’s family ranch in Blue Ridge, TX. Rory had so much curiosity, so much generosity, so much empathy for others, an innate way of putting others immediately at ease. He was the kind of person you could meet for a day but remember for a lifetime.

He leaves behind parents Suzanne and Michael Costigan of Richardson, TX; sister and brother in law Karyn and Bill McKenna of Park City, Utah; and a large extended family.

Rory will be forever loved and missed, and left a big mark on this world in his short time here on earth. May God bless his precious soul.

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34: 18-19

Our family was broken. Rory swooped in last October like an angel that was dropping in from Heaven. He counseled our middle son through his troubles, gave our youngest a job for the summer and became my oldest sons best friend. Our sons would often kid us about Rory being our favorite.
(They were right).
Rory....May you have peace and always know that you were so loved by the Abbott family.

I have wonderful memories of the joy he brought into your world. The warm and caring smile he had, and his unstoppable enthusiasm for life. I think Rory, my dad and his grandmother, are having a great time playing cards, or doing magic tricks for the angels. My heart is heavy he is no longer here with us. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

These written words are exactly what we will always remember precious Rory by. He always had that smile on his face and it wasn't one that you were wondering what he was up to, but one that you couldn't help but smile right along with him. It's still such a shock to know that he will not be on this earth to cheer us all up when we are down, but we know that he will be doing that in the house our or Lord. Mike, Suzanne, Karyn and to the entire family, our family extends our deepest sympathy and condolences to you all. May the Lord keep you all and give you peace. Sending our love. Pat, Alicia, Sue, Samantha and the girls and the The Hessler's.

I can still remember the first time you brought Rory to the CBO to show off your little man. I remember how excited and happy you were to add Rory to your family. Over the years, you always had a big smile on your face and a twinkle in your eye any time you talked about Rory and Karyn. May God wrap his arms around your family and provide you with peace, comfort and loving memories.

The greatest grief a parent can experience is to lose a child - it just is not supposed to happen. My heart breaks for Mike and Suzanne and the rest of Rory's family. Please know that thoughts from our family are with you.
