I first met Scott in 1998 when I was 19 and a freshman in college in Oklahoma. A mutual friend from Dallas I went to school with in OK introduced us and we almost instantly connected. I remember he always had a calm demeanor and was rather soft spoken but he was really funny and had a good sense of humor.
I moved to Dallas in 1999, back then we had a group of friends that all knew each other and would go out to places like Deep Ellum or just hang out at someone’s house. From then on, Scott always welcomed me and we stayed in contact over the years after I moved away from Texas and went to the Air Force.
When I had some military leave and was in town Scott always let me stay over for a night or two. He would spin records on his turntables and we would have a few beers and talk about music (Mainly Hip-Hop), life, technology, relationships, the future and many other topics that strengthened our connection.
Although Scott was a only a couple years older than me I always looked up to him. He was always really smart and technically savvy. I remember back in the early 2000’s it seemed like every time I would come over to his place he would show me something new on the internet or some new record he had.
We hadn’t spoken in years; time and the paths our lives took created a distance in our physical proximity and communication. After many years away I moved back to Dallas on Oct 31, 2020. One of the first people I thought about reaching out to was Scott and was really looking forward to seeing him. I didn’t have his number and decided to look him up and reconnect today on Jan, 10 2021.
I am extremely saddened by Scott’s passing. He was a good friend and a good person.

Scott and I worked together at Avaya for about 8 years. Our cubicles were close to each other and at one point we sat across from each other on the same row, so you can imagine we spoke daily. I often teased Scott about his Selma Hayak photo on his desk. That was his dream girl :)
My favorite memory of Scott aside from his most amazing laugh was a serious moment I would like to share.
A guy we worked with became irritated with me for some reason came to my desk and verbally attacked me by making some derogatory and sexist comments towards me which Scott heard since he sat across from me. Scott quickly stood up, came over, told the guy to apologize to me at once and told him he was never to speak to my in that manner ever again. The guy quickly apologized.
Scott was truly special. He was a gentleman and an amazing friend. I loved him so very much. To his parents. You raised a wonderful man and his friends were blessed for it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. God bless you all.

I worked with Scott Melton at AVAYA in 2000-2005. He always had a great smile, and dedicated to his work.
He will be missed.

I’ve known Scott for about 15 years, we dated for many years, many years ago. I loved Scott fiercely, we had a deep bond that I will always treasure. No matter the distance or as our lives unfolded I know there was always a place in our hearts for one another, our love was unconditional and cemented over time. He called me a few weeks ago, it was so good to hear his voice, so comforting, he sounded clear and hopeful. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for Scott and I will always treasure our time together and appreciate the love we shared. I will miss him forever. My heart goes out to his family, what a deep loss and I am so sorry. I apologize for not attending the funeral I didn’t know until today.

I could not attend my cousin's Memorial, but I wanted to share a story. When I was planning my wedding, I asked Scott if he would be in my wedding as a Junior Groomsmen. I never knew how excited Scott was to hold that position until the reception as Scott was extremely shy. Well, he and I danced so much at my reception. At one point Scott looked up at me with those big beautiful brown eyes and just smiled. His smile lit up the room because he was so happy. He gave me a big bear hug after our dance and left joined his parents at their table. I hope you enjoy this picture of my little Scott at my reception as much as I do and will always. His smile was so infectious.

Uncle Don, Aunt Shirley, Teri, Mia, and Lauryn. Please know we are praying for you all. As your family, we hurt because you hurt, but we also know, as a family, we believe in God's unfailing strength. Jesus' word says, "In my Father's house are many mansions; I go to prepare a place for you." He also says, Ye though YOU walk through the valley of the shadow of death, DO NOT fear for I AM with YOU." Our dear Scott is home in his mansion with our Father. We KNOW WE WILL SEE SCOTT AGAIN!

My sypathies and prayer for you Uncle Don, Shirley, and Terry.
My memories of Scott go back long ago to when he was a kid. When Rhonda and I was dating, she would say many loving things about Scott before I even met him. Yes, he had such an infectious smile and spirit about himself. Rhonda talked about him always in such a loving way, so much so as if she had a brother rather than a cousing. And he lived up to having the uplifting spirit.
We will miss Scott!
Much love for all the laughter and good will he brought to us and everyone else he touched!
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you!

Scott was such a good looking young man and a real sweetheart to me. I remember when he first got taller than me. He hugged me tight then held on for a while. Saying "This time I can wrap my arms all the way around you like you use to do me. It feels great. Adding his beautiful smile. I love you Scott.
