Dessie Mahoney

Dessie M. Mahoney, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025 at home in the loving arms of her daughter, Julie Browning. She was born January 10, 1929 to Charles and Ellen Louana (McWaters) Ross in Coffee County , Alabama.

She was married on January 10, 1948 to Marvin Brown who had two daughters, Ada Nell and Diane. Marvin and Dessie raised two children, a son, Stanley and daughter, Julie.

On April 29, 1999 she married Edward (E.J.) Mahoney who had four children; sons, Larry “Mike” and John “Pat” as well as twin daughters, Joy and Jan.

Dessie was a devout Christian her entire life. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and playing golf. She was fortunate to have hit a “hole in one” and won numerous golfing awards for her senior league.

She is survived by her husband, Edward “E.J.” Mahoney, her children, 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended friends and family members.

Family, friends, and other’s whose lives Dessie touched are invited to Wells Memorial, 1903 W. Reynolds Street, Plant City, Florida 33563 to reminisce, grieve, and support each other on Friday March 28, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1511 El Rancho Drive, Sun City, Florida at 11:00 a.m. Her service will be officiated by Pastor Dave Ungar. The funeral will be followed with a procession to Mt. Enon Cemetery where Dessie will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, donations my be made in her memory to Friendship Baptist Church.
